The TPNW entered into force on January 22, 2021. It is a milestone in human history, prohibiting all activities involving nuclear weapons. However, humankind remains under the dark shadows of nuclear threats. Nuclear weapon states and nuclear umbrella states have turned their backs to the TPNW, clinging to nuclear deterrence. Moreover, their hegemonic rivalries and nuclear arms race have seriously endangered peace and security of Asia and Europe. The abolition of nuclear weapons is essential for the survival of humanity and ensuring peace and security of the whole world and the two regions. The TPNW proposes that the world should shift from “peace and security by nuclear deterrence” to “peace and security of a world without nuclear weapons”.
