Structure of AEPF

The International Organizing Committee (IOC) coordinates the activities of the AEPF. It initially consisted of civil society organizations and social movements that organized the first AEPF-conference in Bangkok in 1996. Since then, members have been added, including from countries where the succeeding forums were held.

For the organization of the biennial people’s forums, the IOC works with a National Organizing Committee (NOC), which is also composed of people’s organizations from the host country. The IOC and NOC, in cooperation with interested organizations in Asia and Europe, decide on the direction and content of the biennial forum.

AEPF has coordinating organizations in each region. For Asia, this is the Institute for Popular Democracy (IPD), based in the Philippines. The coordinating organization in Europe is Transnational Institute (TNI), based in The Netherlands. A coordinating office is also based in 11.11.11 in Belgium for the implementation of a 3-year programme supported by the EU.

In between the biennial people’s forums, AEPF is active through thematic clusters. There are currently six thematic clusters which bring together activists and scholars from Europe and Asia for collaborative campaigns: Climate Change and Just Transitions, Social Justice and Reclaiming affordable and quality Public Services, Just Trade and Corporate Accountability, Peace and Security, Food Sovereignty and Resource Justice, Democratization and Human Rights.
