EURASIA Common Security Policy

This session discusses principles of common security, building on lessons from the 1980s and identifying new challenges. We will look at the cases of the South China Sea to as well as Central Asia, emphasising trust building and prospects for a nuclear weapons free zone. Finally, we consider potential future approaches and the role of civil society.

1) principles of common security, what is the main content of the common security politics and strategy, Lessons learnt from the 80s, what are the new challenges.
2) Common security in the South China Sea. Key points, first steps of trust building and bilaterial and international implications
3) Common security in Central Asia including a nuclear weapons free zone. What could be reached during the last years, next steps and future approaches. The role of civil society.
