In Asia, the vast majority of people are marginalized and with little or no social protection under an economic system that prioritizes profits over people and planet. In July 2020, the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres called for a new social contract amidst the social and economic dislocations brought about by Covid-19 . ASEC proposes to elaborate through discussions & case studies a new economic paradigm offered by no less than the people themselves called Social Solidarity Economy or SSE as an alternative to the neoliberal paradigm .
