Increasing military expenditure does not provide security to people around the world and is not an adequate response to emergencies militarization creates and worsens Nation-states continuously seeking to out-compete one another in the size and destructive powers of their militaries, waste limited resources that should instead be dedicated to covering human needs. Current levels of military spending also prevent us from dealing with global emergencies, such as environmental collapse, pandemics, migrations or social inequalities.
This session explores and challenges how nation-states attempting to out-compete one another in destructive military powers waste resources for meeting human needs, including addressing environmental collapse, a global pandemic, mass migration and social inequalities.
