Some thirty international peace activists and experts from Asia and Europe and representatives of Vietnamese people’s organizations will gather in Hanoi, Vietnam for a workshop on “Peace and Security in Asia and Europe” on 12-13 May 2016.
This timely event is organized by Vietnam Peace and Development Foundation (an affiliate of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations), in cooperation with the International Organizing Committee of the Asia-Europe People’s Forum (AEPF), the Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung, and ActionAid Vietnam.
The workshop, to be held in the framework of the AEPF, will
- review the peace and security situation since AEPF 2014 in Milan, Italy, and, challenges to people’s lives, and experiences of peace movements and people’s organizations in solving problems;
- seek measures to promote peace and security in the region;
- discuss the roles of people’s organizations in easing tension and solving conflicts; and
- enhance cooperation and solidarity between peoples in Asia and Europe.
The event will focus on peace and security issues such as territorial disputes, refugees, terrorism, nuclear weapons, arms trade and military spending etc. It will also discuss ways to strengthen networking among peace movements and people’s organizations in Asia and Europe and work out “peace and security” programs for AEPF 11 in Mongolia on July 4-6, 2016. At the same time, it will make recommendations to ASEM leaders and discuss information sharing among people’s organizations in Asia and Europe and intensify cooperation and solidarity among peoples in the two continents.
